Vantage Point Investments Ltd c/o Marsland Nash Associates is an accountancy and tax advisory firm based in Newton Abbot. This is one of many companies contributing to the area’s commerce, offering services such as business plans, tax audits, HR advice, bookkeeping, and many others.
There are plenty of facilities that need to be set up in an office to accommodate the 20 staff members that make up Vantage Point Investments. This includes the use of air conditioning units, fridges, computers, and cars driven to the office, all of which contribute to their carbon footprint. Inefficient facilities can increase the costs of maintaining an office space and can potentially make or break a business if improvements are not implemented.
Marsland Nash Associates found out about the Decarbonise Your Small Business programme through the Newton Abbot Library’s mailing list as part of the Libraries Unlimited network. Through interaction from our consultants, they received a tailored carbon footprint & SME recommendations report from us which identified their biggest carbon hotspots, then went on to apply for funding to install solar and LED lighting in their office.
How have you found the process of receiving support through the programme?
“Very good support from the team, everything was well organised and communicated throughout the programme,” Office Manager Jane Cornford said.
What sustainability measures have you currently implemented to reduce your carbon emissions?
“We are saving approximately 20% on our energy bills and have reduced the energy that we use from the solar. The LED lights have not long been fitted but we hope to see the results from this to in them using less electric.”
What steps will you take in the future to continue decreasing your carbon emissions?
“We are hoping to see larger benefits as the weather gets better and the days are lighter. It’s early days as we only had the solar installed at the end of November 24. We will be looking into battery storage at the end of this year, an electric car scheme for staff, and a Bike4work scheme for staff.”
