The Business & IP Centre at Exeter and Barnstaple Libraries host a range of events and workshops to suit start-ups, entrepreneurs or businesses looking to learn new skills or research their industry.
Webinars run weekly on a variety of subjects and are a great way to get an overview of a new topic, or a refresher which can help you to look at your business plan in a new light. Whether you’re just starting out or an established business looking to grow, our webinars are useful, inspiring and informative.
One-to-ones are useful for enquiring about how you can access business information and support, to discuss a problem or question you have in a specific area of your business, or to find out more about Intellectual Property. Find out more information on our 1-to-1s page.
This session is based upon two years research into the lives of local artists and makers and recent ArtMakers’ discussions on how local visual artists make a living. It will cover the key aspects of starting out, how people sustain themselves while they grow their business and where to obtain support. How thinking small can lead to big outcomes and why passion is key.
About your hosts
Hilary and Phil are the founders of ArtMakers, a not-for-profit company set up in 2021 in response to the problems being faced by artists and makers in northern Devon owing to Covid restrictions. Artmakers currently supports over 70 local artists and makers providing an online gallery and various support activities, including masterclasses and workshops.
Hilary and Phil have over 60 years’ experience between them working in the creative industries ranging from landscape design to filmmaking. As freelancers their work has taken them all over the world, working with international award winners. Setting up Artmakers reflects not only their passion for the visual arts but also their awareness of the needs of artists and makers in northern Devon.
