Understanding Emotions, & Developing Self-Care @ Okehampton Library

February 20, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 11:15 am

In this session, we will cover tips and tools for managing emotions to break stress cycles and avoid burnout.

Understanding emotions, managing fear & developing self-care

A fundamental cause of overwhelm, stress and burnout today is not taking responsibility for our own actions, thoughts and feelings. We may have a multitude of avoidance techniques to numb and distract us, but just like that beachball held beneath the water, negative emotions and repetitive thoughts will always eventually pop back up again, demanding to be looked at.

Nobody teaches us how to confront fear, manage anxiety or deal with rejection and failure. None of us are naturally skilled in the art of putting our own ‘oxygen mask’ on first, either, by developing that much-needed time and space for self-compassion (self-care). During part 3, we share several useful mindset tools needed to help support you through those challenging and unpredictable times.

Strengthening our courage, developing greater resilience (or bounce-back) and knowing how to push through our fears, (rather than running away from them) is all down to how we foster self-belief. We can only build confidence once we get to grips with our ‘inner critic’, that nagging self-talk which can plague our daily lives. In this session, we share journal tools to not only help to identify this negative self-talk which can hold you back. We also share practices on how to:

  • Slay People – Pleasing & FOOPO (Fear of Other People’s Opinions).
  • Release Unexpressed Emotion – that sits trapped in the physical body.
  • Develop More Self-Care – so you have more energy and vitality.
  • Letting Go – Be it anger, resentment, or shame…we all need to let go.
