STATISTA USER GUIDE

Statista is a vast global statistics database. Whether you’re looking at industry trends, surveys of consumer attitudes, data on the use of particular technologies or facts and figures around health issues, Statista provides statistics, tables, graphs and infographics covering 170 industries and more than 150 countries.

STEP 1 - GET ACCESS

BIPC are here to help. Many resources are paid-for, so BIPC has an account.
Visit the Exeter, Barnstaple or Paignton Libraries, go to the Statista website and away you go!

Access

Available in Exeter, Barnstaple and Paignton Libraries on the public computers, or on your own laptop by connecting to our wi-fi. You do not need a username or password.

STEP 2 - SEARCH RESOURCE

We’re in to the ‘nitty gritty’ now – this is where you find the gold!

Searching

To carry out a basic search, enter your search terms into the box on the front page and click ‘Statista Search’. You will see the following screen.

Narrowing down your search

Sort by: date, popularity or relevance

Location focus: UK topics will appear near the top of any search done from our libraries. Use the drop-down menu to change the focus to other countries/regions.

Filter: Select statistic, forecasts, infographics and topics to see statistics that you can view/download immediately. You can also change the location and publication date through this section. To look at older statistics, change the archive settings. Once you’ve made any changes, click ‘Refresh search’ to apply them.

Browsing

Use the drop-down menus at the top of the screen to browse through topics by industry, to see most frequently viewed statistics, or to view infographics.

Topics with a red icon will give you an overview of a subject.

Viewing, downloading and citing your results

Click on the title of any results for more information
Download using the options on the right-hand side of the screen.

The blue ‘cog’ icon allows you to change the layout of the chart or see the source data. A link for quick citations is also included.

✔ Details on the right of the screen will take you to the source data of your statistics.

Dossiers, studies and reports

You will often see an orange icon indicating dossiers or reports – these are collections of statistics on a similar topic. Click on the title of a report to see the contents page.

If you find a useful report, make a note of the details and speak to a member of staff or email us at bipc@librariesunlimited.org.uk.

✔ We can email you up to 5 reports or dossiers per visit, in either PDF or Powerpoint formats.

! Reports are not available for you to download yourself.
