Getting your business safer from cyber crime (or, how to save £8k)

August 12, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

54% of small businesses in the UK have been a victim of cyber crime over the last 12 months. We can help to keep your business safe.

Smaller businesses don’t always have the time, expertise or cash to sort cyber security, which means that crossing fingers and hoping can sometimes be the preferred plan. The South West Cyber Resilience Centre exists to help those kind of businesses: it’s police-led and not-for-profit.

Working with local Universities and Police forces in the South West, it provides access to the latest local as well as national information on emerging cyber threats, criminal trends, best practice for cyber resilience and new technology to provide timely advice to prepare and protect business.

In this session, Mark and Ross will be running you through what current cyber threats look like, what you can do about them, and how they can help you stay safer into the future. From basic tips which make you safer straight away, through to getting experts who can review your systems for you, the aim of this webinar will be to give you the support you need, now and into the future.

About Mark: Mark is a serving police Superintendent in the Devon and Cornwall force. After graduating from Exeter University with a languages degree, he has worked for over 25 years in policing, spanning a variety of operational roles. His CV includes periods as a detective, as leader of sizeable policing areas, and as a firearms commander, with an interest in cyber which recently led to him becoming one of the force ‘digital leaders’. He has also operated nationally as a lead consultant, helping forces across the country create sustainable operating models. Latterly, Mark chaired the board of directors of a local Multi-Academy Trust, guiding it through a period of restructure and expansion. Mark holds an MSc in police leadership and management and a postgraduate diploma in the psychology of organisation development. He is married with two children, two dogs, and a passion for Cornish beaches.

About Ross:
I am an experienced Detective officer who has carried out numerous roles during his service, although primarily operating within mainstream Criminal investigations. Latterly as a trainer within Dorset Police in order to implement a new Records Management System as well as course writing. During a number of career breaks I have experience of running large scale projects in the middle east. I have joined the South West Cyber Resilience Centre as a Detective Inspector and head of cyber and innovation. The Cyber Resilience Centre for the South West supports and helps protect SMEs and supply chain businesses and third sector organisations in the region against cyber crime.

Working with local Universities and Police forces in the South West provides access to the latest local as well as national information on emerging cyber threats, criminal trends, best practice for cyber resilience and new technology to provide timely advice to prepare and protect business.
