Based in the Dartmoor village of South Brent, Jo’s Eco shop provides household essentials from cleaning products to hair masks and sun cream, specially selected for their eco-credentials at pocket-friendly prices.
Jo Plumbly started this business after finding that her mission to reduce single-use plastics in her home, meant trekking to several different stores to find eco-friendly essentials.
Jo decided that South Devon needed a One-Stop Eco Shop! So, Jo opened an online Shop called Jo’s Eco Shop during the lockdown. It all started with door-to-door deliveries of refills and Eco-friendly products and is now a busy online store with big plans for the future.
Jo says, “I wanted to run my own business so I could make Eco-friendly choices available to everybody.”
In 2021 Jo received a business support package worth £1,000 as part of BIPC Devon’s She Started It Programme which aimed to help 20 female entrepreneurs launch their small businesses.
Since receiving the grant, Jo has received support for marketing and has started designing a new logo and a website. BIPC Devon has also linked Jo with an accountant and business advisor to help her move her business forwards and plan for her future goals.
Jo says “I didn’t know what was available to me, or I was worried that all the help that was available would be expensive and I couldn’t afford it as the business wasn’t making enough money.”
