BIPC Devon has been a long-time champion of emerging entrepreneurs. Everyone needs to start somewhere on the journey, from the dream of an initial business idea to the reality of owning a start-up, in order to create new and exciting companies that contribute to the economy and improve our local business communities.
Our free, seven-week course, “Boost Your Start-Up”, will launch on the 16th September 2024 and will run until the end of October 2024. This course will delivered by predominantly Devon-based experts who want to train and empower others to realise their full potential and pursue their dreams of running a successful company.
As with all BIPC Devon Courses, we’ll be using our effective combination of workshops, networking, webinars and mentoring to provide you a mixture of core business skills, digital skills, how-to guides for finding resources, mindset and coaching skills. Our aim is to give you the tools you need to feel confident and competent in starting and running your own business.
You’ll learn everything from getting the foundations right, creating your business model canvas, building resilience and public speaking skills, to intellectual property, sales, branding, marketing, customer retention and accounting basics.
More than this we focus on giving you the skills to coach yourself through the journey that is starting or running your own business. Our experts will help you find the self-belief, confidence and self-assuredness to tackle any challenges that come your way. So, what are you waiting for?

In this first session, we will look at how you build the right foundations for future success, from nailing your product or service to getting that “to do” list ticked off!
Starting your own business means wearing many different hats, sometimes all once! Our mindset plays such an important role in how we approach problems, disappointments, setbacks, challenges and opportunities, and can make or break a flourishing business.
In this session, we will discuss methods that will lead you to succeed as a business owner / entrepreneur, with tips to help develop the right mindset, approach difficult situations with grace, and grow a thicker skin.
Most business owners will tell you that they often have moments when they felt like throwing in the towel! However, it’s in these moments that remembering why you do what you do really counts! It’s not enough to simply have a big vision for what you want to achieve; the most important thing is “how” do you get there?
In this session, we will look at goal setting and planning, using a mix of practical pieces of advice that you can apply to make a realistic road map for future success.
There are so many different types of business models, with so many factors to consider such as value propositions, marketing and distribution channels, customer segments, the list goes on. However, creating a successful business model as a start-up can take time to find what and how works best for you.
In this session we will look at how you create a one-page business model that you can refer to on a daily basis to keep you focused and on track!

Knowing your numbers, managing cash flow and costs is key for any start-up, but it can be difficult to make sense of the ins and outs of financing as well as figure out what funding opportunities are available.
In this session, we look at some basic principles to set yourself up for success and what types of finance/funding options to consider for future funding.
